Community Facilities and Employment

Draft Aim

To provide a broad range of community facilities and job opportunities so that residents needs can be addressed without the need of long distance travel. Facilities to be provided as they are required as the development is delivered.

Key Requirements

  • North Walsham West will provide the community facilities and infrastructure that are required to support the new community.  These new facilities will be well located and within easy walking distance of the new residents and the existing community of North Walsham.

  • It will have a local centre that will be located in the centre of the new development.  The new community facilities, including the new primary school, some retail and employment uses, will be grouped to compliment and enhance existing leisure and community uses such as Rossi’s and North Walsham Town Football Club.

  • Discussions will be had with the NHS & CCG regarding the provision of health facilities in the new local centre and any identified needs will have land allocated for these facilities.

  • A new 'Town park' will be created nearby to create a vibrant hub that is linked to the wider area by cycling and walking routes in attractive green corridors.

  • Providing job and enterprise opportunities in North Walsham West will ensure that the new community is a sustainable place to live and work.  Up to 7 hectares (equivalent to 8 full size football pitches) of employment land will be provided which will be located to the north of the site in the Cromer Road/Bradfield Road area adjacent to, and complimenting, the existing employment uses in this area.  This employment land will be within easy cycling and walking distance of the town and North Walsham West and the new Link Road will provide convenient access for businesses.

  • Opportunities for smaller employment sites located through-out the development will be considered.
